The designer Nagai quit his degree at the Tokyo University of Arts in 1951, and he became a member to create a design organization Nippon Design Center. Asahi beer was in a slump and Nagai gambled with the logo renewal to see if they would get the share back. Asahi Beer has given up on the red imperial flag logo which Raymond Loewy designed, and re-started with the new logo with the letters tilted towards the upright holds the meaning of visualizing growth.
