1984 Olympics - USPS Advertisement

2

This image was taken from a 1983 LIFE magazine Volume 6, Number 11 titled, “THE KENNEDY ASSASINATION: 4 DAYS THAT STOPPED AMERICA.” The date of the magazine was published November 1983. This magazine advertisement contributes to the history of graphic design, as a way to sell the United States Postal Service in comparison to the 1984 Olympics with its typography and graphics. In 1983, the USPS put out 24 award-winning collectable stamps for the upcoming 1984 Olympics. In order to “keep the spirit of the Olympics alive," this advertisement was a way to get you to collect all of the stamps and gain a feeling of accomplishment even if you were not competing in the Olympics. As the title says, this advertisement was a way for a person to be a part of something and “be more than just a spectator.”
