Commissioned by the Japanese Gender Equality Bureau, this symbol was designed by Yukio Ota to deepen society's awareness of violence against women.
The woman's arms are raised to create an “X” shape, rejecting violence. The upper lines of her arms also create her facial contour. Ota chose to express her anger using her hair, along with her facial expression.
