This logo was designed by Yukio Ota in 2006 for the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)'s 100 anniversary.
For the anniversary logo, Ota focused on the symbolic relationship of the two ‘0’ in the ‘100.’ The first ‘0’ contains a pictogram of the earth, depicting lines of longitude and latitude at a 23-degree angle. The second ‘0’ is smaller than the first but is also empty. This contrast is to emphasize the transition of standardization's focus, from the Earth in its first century to the vastness of the universe in its upcoming century. Below is the text “International Standardization” in both English and Japanese.
