Pictogram Design

10

Published by Kashiwashobo in 1987, 'Pictogram Design' by Yukio Ota is among the first Japanese language books focusing on the world of pictographic design. Included are hundreds of pictograms from designers around the world, along with chapters dedicated to Ota's ‘Running Man’ emergency exit symbol and his ‘LoCoS’ pictographic language.

In a blog post, Ota explains that the book took more than 30 collaborators over 10 years to produce the book, as it was designed before computers.
