Faber Castell lead

4

I found this little box of leads among a couple other items in my father’s old drawing and drafting supplies. He is not alive for me to ask but these items could have also been his grandfathers.

These lead refills possibly date back to 1940.

Faber Castell 9030 leads were the standard in drafting classes in the 80s.

The Faber-Castell company was founded in 1761 by a German cabinet maker—originally named  A. W. Faber Company. The company stayed in the family for eight generations. At some point, ownership passed to a daughter in the Faber family who married one of Germany’s oldest aristocratic families, Castell-Rudenhausen. Her grandfather insisted in his will that the company hold the name Faber for the rest of time, so the company has since been named Faber-Castell.
