Goin' South is a comedic Western film released in 1978, directed by and starring Jack Nicholson. The film centers around a outlaw in the old west who narrowly escapes execution thanks to the intervention of a young woman.
This packaging features the film's poster slightly cropped to fit the size of the package. Said poster contains an image of Nicholson's character being covered by a noose, with the film's title and Nicholson's name in the otherwise empty top left. The sides of the box feature the film's poster without the text in a small box at the top, the film's title in the middle, and the Paramount logo at the bottom. The back contains a shot from the film, publisher information and credits, and a description of the film's premise.
The visuals of this box were designed to capitalize off of the brand value of Jack Nicholson, utilizing his imagery and name to sell the film. The poster focuses entirely on Nicholson, and his name is given almost as much relevance as the film's title at the front of the box. This focus on Nicholson and this package as a whole represents home media releases utilizing recognizable actors and brands to sell their films to audiences by placing the recognizable elements front and center, focusing on them just as much, if not more, than the movie itself.
