2005 Save the Saturn V License Plate

6

This license plate was printed initially as a fundraising campaign for the Space and Rocket center. The Center was trying to raise funds to "save" the Saturn V rocket - to restore and display one of the only original, complete Saturn V rockets. The plate still sports the Heart of Dixie tagline, but it's easy to miss, put to the side in favor of a larger tagline: “First to the Moon and Beyond”. The plate depicts a snapshot of space in an illustration, with the Saturn V, the ship in question, in the forefront. A satellite is also in the lower right hand corner. The plate speaks to Alabama's accomplishments in space exploration and its value of preserving history. The plate raised more than enough to fund the preservation of the rocket, and it sits in the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville today. Designer unknown.
