In 1969, Impulse! Records released Karma by saxophonist Pharaoh Sanders. With this being Sander's most well-known record, it marks the beginning of the sub-genre spiritual jazz. This album delved into more thematic ideas and was inspired by Eastern sounds. The album cover is one of many striking album covers from the Impulse! line up. This cover is unique in comparison of what a jazz record cover should look like (ex. Blue Note and Verve). With its organic type and warm colors, the cover gives the audience a hint that this will not be any regular be-bop listen.
