Fire in the Sky VHS Box Cover

6

Fire in the Sky was made in 1993 and is based on true events of alien sightings. In 1975, a group of five men make their way home from work when they suddenly spot a strange light.  Getting out of the group's truck, one of the men investigates the light only to be abducted.  The other men at the scene report the incident only to be interrogated on the possibility of murder.  The VHS presented was published the same year in 1993 in Hollywood, California.

The front cover features the title in uppercase, Eurostile typeface encased in horizontal, yellow lines. The caption “based on the true story” as well as credits are displayed below the title in the same typefaces in different weights. A brief description of the events is also displayed in the left-hand corner in a similar typeface. The image on the front features a bright light beaming onto a man in a dark, foggy atmosphere. The light acts as a guiding line directed toward the main character affected in the movie. The Paramount Production image is shown towards the top left of the front cover.

The back of the package features the same title and caption on the left side as well as notable scenes from the movie on the right, including the background image as a scene from the movie. The back also features a brief description of the story and production copyright,  movie rating and credits, and a barcode available for scanning in-store. This is one movie VHS cover that is important to design history as it focuses more on typography than the image itself. Restricting to one image on the front with the bold typography draws interest to the mysterious cover.
