These are just some of the many advertisements that J&M would have posted in the newspaper during the 1900s. Many of Auburn's community knows the tradition to make catchy phrases or simple signs that have the opponent's name for that football weekend. There were t-shirts, posters, banner, pins, and so much more that get the Auburn fans all ready for the next game. This was a great way to advertise their shop by reminding the reader about the next game, and to make sure they have all their Auburn apparel for the game. Some of the advertisements had the simple “BEAT football team name”, but other had hand drawing and the catchy phrase.
The small comment on the first ad about cutting out this to put on their back window is such a special touch because it shows how special and how big these games meant to the Auburn football family and how they came together.
We still see this kind of design being used today with football season and now with other collegiate teams within Auburn University. These now vintage styles are coming back and the t-shirt designs are very special to students, as well as the drawing style still being sued today.
