“Yesteryear" were reissues of the 1960s Detroit recordings that were among the last to have lacquers mastered at RCA's "Mid-America Recording Center" studios in Chicago, prior to their being acquired by Curtis Mayfield and rebranded as Custom Recording Studios. This label is split into three sections through color—orange and beige, beige, and then orange—almost as a pictorial representation of an actual hierarchy.
The top shows both serif and san-serif typefaces that exude a “past-meets-modern” feel. The series’ name is in a Western typeface with rounded serifs. There is also an icon of a house on the left. The top into middle area appears to be the focus of the label as the rest of the type elements, detailing information about the song and recording company, seem to be tertiary in the hierarchy. In contrast to other vinyl labels designed for Motown, there is no graphic logo for the recording group—just type.
