Shopping Sugoroku Board Game

10

This is a poster created by Ryūshi Kawabata in 1914. Sugoroku (double sixes) is a popular Japanese board game played with a set of dice. The examples here are from a version of the game known as picture sugoroku, which consists of illustrated game boards loosely resembling those of chutes and ladders. Many picture sugoroku games of the early 20th century were created as advertisements, printed on poster-size paper and included as supplements to popular women’s magazines.
