Cafe Lulu

9

Beloved and well-known Cafe Lulu, the brainchild of Lou Jane Temple, operated in the 1990s at 1706 W 39th St in Kansas City, Missouri. The witty menu stated, "We want Cafe Lulu to be a very special place, one that will make friends feel like they are home and strangers feel welcome. We want Cafe Lulu to feel like it has been here forever – to bring the European bistro to Kansas City – to nourish the soul as well as the body."

The colorful cover illustration on the folder, drawn in a primitive style, sets the spicy tone and sports a background hand-drawn texture. The folder, a four-color, two-sided printing with full coverage, likely printed on coated cover stock, boasts a third short-sided panel with an irregular die-cut edge, which allows the menu to peek through. The "Sun Menu," a winter selection, features cuisines from Caribbean destinations' warm, sunny climes. The one-color printing on colored text stock is inserted into a three-panel folder. At the same time, the folder also envelops a matching four-color wine folder with its own changeable one-color insert on colored text stock.
