“Saturday Night Fever” is a dance-drama film released by Paramount in 1983. Originally based on a screenplay, the movie starred John Travolta and Karen Gorney. On the front of the VHS sleeve is a photograph of Travolta and Gorney dancing. Travolta's arm is outstretched, creating an implied line to the lens flare and title of the movie.
Saturday Night Fever played a large role in bolstering the popularity of discotheques in the 1970s and 80s. This package is an important piece of graphic design history because the design effectively represents the culture and energy of the time. The original poster for the movie was the same image seen on this VHS package, but the typography was changed.
