The cover of the magazine Hototogisu was designed by printmakers Chu Asai and Goyo Hashiguchi.


The magazine Hototogisu was first published in 1891, with the haiku poutiest Shiki Masaoka as its lead. Natsume Soseki's "I am a cat'' became famous in this magazine.
