This is an offset lithograph designed by Makoto Saito. While the motivations for making this particular piece are unclear, Saito's intentions with his application of postmodernism are defined by ghostly portraits of his subjects, often classic filmmakers, as well as tweaking the legibility of both image and type to evoke emotion in the audience. Saito makes it clear he wishes “to express not just the pretty surface of things, but also the internalized ugly parts as well." (Ocula) This is reflected in the controlled, chaotic, and abstract composition of this piece.
