This is Maroon 5’s debut album, released on CDs and vinyl records on June 25th, 2002, in the United States. However, it wasn’t released for other countries until May 2003 (Elliott, 2021). The photos of the vinyl album shared in this post are one of these later releases as indicated by the 2003 copyright year printed on the record. The Discogs reseller of this particular vinyl record notes it was printed in Canada.
Luckily, the people in charge of designing this album cover are credited on the sleeve with many others that put the album together. First in the list, one can see Cey Adams was in charge of the art direction. Next, the credited illustrator is Gregg Gordon, also known under his alias name as GIGART. Lastly, Christopher Wray-McCann and Bob Carmichael are the photographers of the band’s images seen printed on the sleeve and back cover.
There was a rerelease of Songs About Jane in 2015 along with Maroon 5’s other albums as vinyl records had regained popularity thanks to a group of people often referred to as hipsters. Statistics showed a 32% increase in the United States vinyl sales in 2013 (Burdett, 2016). The rereleased vinyl of Songs About Jane is mostly the same as far as the art and photographs go but one will notice the slight differences if they look close enough, mostly in the typography layout on the back cover and sleeve. At first glance, it would be hard to distinguish which of the 2 was released first; the only real way to tell is the copyright date printed on each one.
