Tastefully Charlotte postcard - 21 South Curb Service
“Tastefully Charlotte” is a series of postcards based on Diane Davis’ photographs from the 80s of Charlotte Diners. Davis writes about the series, “All communities possess gathering places that attract people over food - some just last longer than others. I took a year to study the diners through all seasons to find my vision of glorification for these cultural icons.” (Davis). The original collection was released in an edition of 20 and displayed on exhibition in 1989. However, postcards allowed for a larger and cheaper distribution of the works. This postcard depicts 21 South, a drive-in restaurant on Independence Boulevard. The restaurant is one of the city’s oldest eateries still in operation, having opened in its current location in 1959.
