Superman IV: The Quest For Peace is the fourth and final film in the original Superman quadrilogy starring Christopher Reeve as the titular man of steel. This film is commonly considered the worst one and involves Superman fighting against Nuclear Man and acts as a metaphor for fighting against nuclear weaponry.
This VHS was released as part of the "Superman Collection” in 2001 after the film saga had concluded, and long after the film released in 1987. This collection was one of many compiling all of the Superman films, with many more releasing in the future for both the Christopher Reeve films and those that came after.
This packaging features the film's poster inside of a white-metallic border and on top of a blue background with wispy textures overlaid on top. The poster has had various graphic and promotional elements removed. The film's title has been overlaid on top of every other element, overlapping both the poster and the background, creating the effect of the logo popping out of the frame. The sides of the box feature another version of the title, the Superman Collection logo, and the Warner Bros. logo. The back contains a description of the film, selected shots from the film, and information regarding the people involved in production.
The visuals of this box were designed to act as a celebration of Superman and the film series this movie is a part of. The blue fog is a consistently repeated element throughout the original Superman film series, and the curved and metallic logo is a defining visual element tying each film together. This box is meant to act as a companion piece to the other three films in the box set, and does that by containing the most important elements that tie each film together visually. This results in something that, while visually impressive on its own, evokes feelings of Superman and works best when paired with the other films in the set.
