Alabama License Plate (1998)
This license plate was produced in Alabama in 1998. Made by prison labor, as most license plates are, it features a very romantic portrayal of the state, using calligraphic fonts both in the state name and in it's nickname, the “Heart of Dixie”. The latter phrase is bedazzled by sparkles and backed by a heart, which makes additional appearances in later designs. The plate as a whole features a red to white to blue gradient - American colors that would have marked the state as patriotic while also adding its own distinctive flair. The license numbers, while more straight-edged than their previous designs, also had softer corners than the typeface used for license numbers today. This license plate would have been seen on an everyday civilian's car, and doesn't denote anything about the driver other than their status as an Alabamian resident. Designer unknown.
