Clue (1972)

6

Sitting in his English home during the air raids of WWII, Anthony E. Pratt recalled the murder mystery games popular at parties he was working at. He created a game called “Cluedo” which was licensed to Parker Brothers for US distribution in 1949. In America it was called “The Great New Detective Game” though a deal was quickly struck to incorporate Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes into the title. Since the making the 1972 edition, Sherlock Holmes had not played as prominent a role and had now been relegated to TV advertisements for the game. The 1972 edition is one of eight American redesigns during British Cluedo’s lifespan. The 1972 floorplan for Mr. Boddy’s mansion has since remained the same with England adopting the design in 1996.
