1970s Parker Brothers Card Game
Mille Bornes, French for “a thousand milestones,” is a card game that refers to the distance markers seen on many French roadways. Edmond Dujardins designed the game, 1000 Bornes, in 1954. Almost identical to the earlier American motor card game, Touring, which was created by William Janson Roche in 1906. The game's name is based on the approximate length of the RN 7, which connects Paris to the border with Italy. The cards were created and hand lettered by Joseph Le Callennec, a graphic artist from France. Parker Brothers, who has the permission to market Touring in the United States, purchased a license for Mille Bornes in 1962 and began publishing its edition in America with altered cover art.
