The Nintendo DS version of the “Mario vs Donkey Kong Mini-land Mayhem!” game was a video game published by Nintendo November 2010. The cartridge is a dark grey color with a printed sticker graphic on the front displaying the game graphics along with brand logos. There is a stylized type for the title “Mario vs Donkey Kong Mini-land Mayhem!” which is a sans-serif font with a yellow gradient highlighting the tops of “Mario”, “Donkey Kong” is red with a yellow stroke, and finally “Mini-land Mayhem!” in solid red. The type is slightly askew adding to the “mayhem” the title mentions. The background is a dark and light yellow small checkered or dotted pattern. The illustration includes a “baby Mario” figure exaggeratedly sliding down a diagonally downward sloping piece of scaffolding featured in the game. The “baby Mario” figure is depicted with his arms and hands extended behind him with “speed lines” and whooshing smoke in his wake. The printed sticker also includes the console logo, the game content rating, a white Nintendo company logo, a gold official Nintendo console seal and game code. Not only were these characters an iconic part of gaming history, this game, although published during the later 2000’s was still a significant part of many generations childhoods growing up during the era and was filled with fond memories to reminisce on. From a design standpoint this game serves as an example of nostalgic graphics, animations, and user interactions for future generations to look back upon, draw inspiration from, and learn from past faults.
