The Ivy Way Through Mt. Utsu宇津の細道

10

This piece was illustrated by Sakai Hōitsu in 1815 during the Edo period (1615–1868). It was produced on a two-panel folding screen, using ink, color, and gold on paper. This piece is about the famous scene from the classic mid-tenth-century narrative The Ise Stories. The work shows two guys seated across from one another on both hills and the hills form a very narrow road that seems to run deep within the mountain.
