Back to the Future
This poster is for the 1985 film Back to the Future directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg. This poster was painted by Drew Struzan, one of the most famous film poster designers and artists of the 70s until his retirement in the 2010s. This hand painted poster shows the main character, Marty Mcfly, checking his wristwatch with a panicked expression on his face. He is wearing blue jeans, a jean jacket, and a puffy orange vest. He is lifting his sunglasses up, past his forehead, showing off the shocked look on his face. He is stepping out of a Delorean car, the door raised, the car emitting a white light, illuminating his expression as well as the underside of the car door. The car is parked in the middle of a street, with two streaks of hot fire running from before the door, through the main characters legs and fading off into the distance. The background of the poster is a sunset gradient, almost at the time when the sun is completely down, the top portion of the poster being a dark blue and fading lighter to an orange color as the poster reaches the midline. In the top left corner reads “Steven Spielberg presents” in a small font. Significantly larger is the title, Back To The Future, in block lettering with an orange to yellow gradient. There is also an arrow pointing into the crook of the letter “K”. Underneath the title it reads “A Robert Zemeckis Film”. On the left side still, reads “He was never in time for his classes… He wasn’t in time for his dinner… Then one day… he wasn’t in his time at all.” In the bottom right hand corner is the list of the cast and crew for the film. Also across the very bottom is the MGM Universal logo, the rating of the film, CC, and Stereo Surround sound, indicating more information about the film.
