This image was made by Douglas Emory an African graphic designer who loves the quote “Art is a powerful tool, a language that can be used to enlighten, inform and guide to action”. He has created work for one of the most revolutionary groups such as the “Black Panther Party” . He pioneered an aesthetics of protest at the height of the civil era, that stamped significance among the 20th century most influential radical political parties.
The orginization of Solidarity with the people of Africa, Asia and Latin America primary means of distributing posters was through a magazine called the “Tricontinental” which included a folded poster in about every issue. The poster was printed in English, French, Spanish and Arabic, The organization believed that people are not free until all are free which is why they decided to include countries that were suffering from this at the time. Showing their solidarity with the black panthers by appropriating this image made my Emory Douglas.
