THE DESIGN REVIEW; No.9
Against the wave of modernization in 1960s and 1970s in Japan, where posters were becoming increasingly geometric and minimalist to function better as an advertising tool. Awazu Kiyoshi at the time was more interested in the potential of graphic design beyond the commercial aspect. His signature move was the use of repetitive prints, whether it is inkan, the head of a person, fingerprints. His approach to graphic design tends to drive more critical thinking around the idea of identity due to his repetitive use of forms of identification. We can see that on this magazine cover there are many repetitions of prints.
