Yusaku Kamekura is known as the father of Japanese Graphic Design. He designed this illustration for the 1954 Sofu teshigahara flower arrangement exhibition. This illustration merges multiple symbols, such as eyes of a person, an incense stick in an incense holder and petals emerging from the top of the burning incense as if resembling smoke and ashes. These elements are all contrasted against a strong, saturated red background.
