Yamaha 250 Gan Hosaya
The Yamaha 250 Model YDS2 advertisement poster was made by Gan Hosaya in 1961. It was influenced in a way by westernized ideas shown in the poster. It can be seen that Hosaya used Swiss Helvetica, and manipulated the image of the motorcycle 90 degrees vertically to express a sense of speed. It expresses simplicity in the font and layout as well as the asymmetry of the piece and positioning of the text seems to use the grid systems.
The composition of the text is common among the Swiss style in which there is less, so there is more whitespace or space for visual impact, readability, and lets the text breathe. The combination of font and image manipulation also created a style of flat imagery with mathematical approaches.
