Lakota Indian Artifact

14

This piece is a Lakota Indian artifact from Black Hills region in South Dakota.  This intricate and meticulously adorned pipe bag is representative of the remarkable craftsmanship the Lakota Indians possessed.  The beadwork represents a profound connection to nature and ancestral tradition, while also demonstrating great veneration for ritual and ceremony.  The bag has a notable use of primary color and geometric shape.  There is a symmetrical array of diamonds, triangles, and squares.

Each pattern holds great symbolic value and significance, linking back to a spiritual connection to nature.  The pipestone pipe alongside the bag is a symbol of peace and unity for the Lakota people.
