African Art and the Modernist Lens

Since the 1840s, African art in photography has been used as a medium for artistic expression throughout the world. Man Ray's Paris shots from the 1920's show how African art was given new meanings when photography emerged as a recognized modernist art form. Man Ray used African art to tell stories through his photography and other art platforms. This art piece was taken in the year 1926.
