Alcohol is the cause of accidents in the workplace

The poster shown was designed within the USSR, in which artists were stripped of their right to independently create art. Stalin commissioned designers to create safety posters to line the walls of factories, and art became an official tool of the state. Since half the workforce was illiterate, it was vital to create posters that were more visually communicative and were not text-heavy. It's important to look at what is created within moments of censorship, and this poster's universal simplistic design demonstrates several factors of the sociocultural environment within Russia in the 1980's.
