“In some of the photographs …students are shown learning hand-composition of type and printing on hand- and engine-powered presses. The same types of presses appear in photographs of Black newspaper presses, like this of Richmond Planet press from the American Negro Exhibit in 1900, which has an engine-powered cylinder press like the one in our photograph of Tuskegee’s printing office.”
