Shōjo sekai or Girl's World by Hakubunkan

850

This image is the cover of the magazine Shōjo sekai (少女世界, "Girls' World"), Vol. 3. No. 10, published July 1, 1908 by Hakubunkan 博文館 in Tokyo, Japan. Novelist Nobuko Yoshiya wrote the story in this issue.  These works later become notable in Japanese manga in defining the style of the genre. The art features bold colors, flattening of illustration, and nods to art nouveau framing illustrations.
