The Eveready Battery Company is an American electric battery manufacturer founded in 1896. Around the 20th century, calendar posters were a new form of advertising trending in which major companies would present calendars as gifts to their clients at the beginning of Chinese New Year. They featured traditional Chinese folk prints, colorful pictures, and symbols.

This was called Yuefenpai which meant calendar advertisements. The rise of this trend influenced both eastern and western companies in the way they designed posters and advertising to appeal to their audiences. With western companies making a strong influence on eastern economy, Chinese markets were combining Western promotional posters with traditional Chinese woodblock-printed calendars. It featured the traditional qipao clothing and makeup of young women in a standardized beauty (smooth skin, slim body, closed lips smile) with the flora being painted with fine brush techniques.

This design being important as it demonstrates the inspiration of the west in the eastern economy and that influence on design. It is also one example of Yuefenpai which eventually disappeared in 1949 when Communists took over Shanghai.
