Asurini Graphics

These geometric designs are patterns found in body art by the Asurini people, since approximately the end of the 19th century. The Asurini people are native to a region of Brazil between the Xingu and Bacajá rivers.  These works incorporate three main motifs in the subjects portrayed, consisting of nature, humans and material culture.  Geometric and minimalistic design describe aspects of multiple design movements, but especially demonstrates a likeness to Swiss Design.  These indigenous people are not as well known for creating some of the first minimalistic, geometric and asymmetrical designs, but came before well-established movements of the twentieth century.
