The bright and lively color palette of the Les Girards poster creates contrast and draws the viewer directly to the centered illustration. The hand lettering creates a tone of excitement with the shaky outlines around the letters. With the rise of mass production, and a reduction in emphasis on aesthetics, industrialization brought a desire to return to nature in the fields of art and design. Jules Cheret utilized color lithography, as it allowed for cheaper production of color prints, to develop posters that functioned both as advertisements as well as art. His posters were inspired by Japanese prints as well as the post-impressionist movement and often feature hand lettering that compliments the flowing and exaggerated rococo-style illustrations on the page. The usage of lithography as a technology in the development of these posters allowed for a feeling of handmade design that met the desires of the design community of the time, while still being able to produce greater quantities of a poster to meet consumer demand.
