Women’s Co-operative Printing Union

In the late 1860s woman typographers were having trouble finding work despite owners of print shops, allowing them to work they were having trouble with the typographical union permitting them to get jobs. One of the main issues was the pay gap between women and men, and the women did not want to work for less than the men. Another main issue was the fact that the union had a lot of power over the printers so they would also not grant the women jobs. That is why Agnes B Peterson started the Women’s Cooperative Printing Union. One of their first clients was Wells Fargo, who helped them obtain financing for their union, and they went on to print various books, cookbooks, children’s books, nonfiction, journals, etc. In the image attached, we see a poster for the WCPU advertising their work with there address.
