Indian Rickshaw
The streets of India are inundated with rickshaws, three-wheeled vehicles used to transport people. In a sea of identical vehicles, rickshaw drivers stand out by decorating their vehicles. Tamil Nadu is a rickshaw driver known for painting faces on his vehicles, making them look alive. He will also include religious imagery. These vibrant, hand-painted vehicles have become a cornerstone of India' s cultural and visual identity. Each vehicle is a physical representation of the owner's identity and together they show the diverse tapestry of India's residents. These adornments, are bright and bold, sometimes even obscuring windshields and registration information. This commitment to form over function and self-expression over anything is exceptionally commendable and stands in stark contrast to function-forward ethos of Swiss design which is so highly revered in western culture.
