Poster for Harlem Song designed by Gail Anderson
Gail Anderson is an African-American Graphic designer who went to the School of Visual Arts in New York and was influenced by a poster she saw from a Paul Davis poster, “We had a poster in the corner, it was the Paul Davis poster: ‘to be good is not enough when you dream of being great,’ and I was like, I want to go to that school". Ever since she has designed playbills, editorials, advertisements, posters, and book covers, and has been a creative designer at Spotco, She is now Chair of the BFA Advertising and Design departments at the School of Visual Arts and serves as creative director at the School of Visual Arts Press. She is very influential in black graphic design history because she has done things that many other black designers, especially black women, would not have thought was possible, as well as designing for other black creators, this is a good example of black creators coming together.
