SIDEWALKS OF NEW YORK

Album Cover for Decca Records designed by Charles Goslin. Goslin was an instructor of Graphic Design and Illustration at Pratt Institute from 1966–2007. He was a highly influential instructor having taught over 1,000 students. Goslin began his career working for design pioneer, Lester Beall. After leaving Beall’s office, Goslin set up his one-person studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

In most cases, a designer will list the songs on the album cover along with the album’s title. In this piece, Goslin chose to make a graphic literally of the streets of NY with the song titles worked into the street names, which become part of the graphic.

Here, the type is an intrinsic part of the design.
